So, Charles points out a reasonably obvious point: Isn't there some way of serializing an Expression Tree?  Not that I know of, I reply.  Plus, [insert previously held belief about the state of the universe... Read More

C# certainly has a lot to like about it; it's not the "Java ripoff" it was once lambasted as. That said, for all that it offers, it tends to fall short more often than I like, and while that's occasionally...

Assert.That(Programming.Can(Be(Beautiful))); A simple way to improve intellisense when we code these interfaces is to implement an IFluentInterface interface - which simply instructs VS to hide all the...

I am very happy that this little chunk of cyberspace has spurred some thought and debate.  That makes me super happy - if there is such a thing.  I would assume that Happy implement IEmotion and such...

An idea that, until today (to me @ least), had no name: Fluent Interfaces (thanks Charles).  The concept and implementation (in C#, at least)  is, quite simply, sweet.  as I regard the art of software... Read More

Sean... I know you're at a wedding this weekend, but you hath spake truth here my brother! C#, while Almost Awesome, is not quite so. Nor the other languages that profess to be so. Indeed, "classes...

Actually, Nick, Smalltalk's class objects are *not* alterable at runtime: They're fixed, static, unchangeable, read-only, and therefore highly amenable to gizmos like Intellisense. The original Smalltalk...

Good points, all. Sean, I agree that some dynamic languages can probably express some of these ideas natively. Sadly, I am a strong-typing and IntelliSense junky. Strong typing rocks. Strong type inferencing...

Anyway, let's keep up the mass * velocity.  If you would like a "real" link at the top or think I should open up the (new Rant<T>().ToString()) to everyone, I'm happy to do so.

Oy! Check out the new (as in freshly minted, not needing garbage collection) Today.GetThoughtNugget() area. It will be a place where jonny.gold (why am I referring to myself in the third-person?) will be placing his little nugget of software engineering love.

Also, check out the ThinkTank.Fire(new Idea())  - I think we can get some good mindshare-mojo working.  Get your thinking caps on (available by mail-order from thinkgeek.com).

ObjectifiedThing.Introduction

Last updated Apr 29, 2009
This community began its life as off-handed comment that finally sparked my interest in writing about software development.  Specifically about software architecture and design.  And coding.

While the aim is to be programming language agnostic and above technological bigotry, we are .NET guys in our day jobs.  That is not to say that we don't groove on the Ruby or Java or Smalltalk.  Its just that we get paid to be good at .NET development.  Specifically the new hotness of the 3.5 Framework.

Who are the custodians and cheeky windbags of ObjectifiedThing?  Well, there's Yours Truly, Jon Goldman, of course.  And Ben Przystanski. And Mr. Dean Poulin, aka Code Monkey.  We all currently work at HomeNet where we are working on the next generation of Inventory Online - with which you can manage your entire online inventory from one centralized location. What kind of inventory you ask? Vehicles, of course!

So, please, have a look around. Check out the blogs... I'm sure there's gotta be something there that will get you thinking. Unless, of course, there isn't anything there at all yet...
